Caring for your newly seeded lawn

Water seeded areas enough to keep the soil consistently moist.  This will usually require watering lightly two times per day.

If the grass seed sprouts and dries out it will die.

After germination continue watering until the new growth reaches about three inches.

Begin watering 2-3 times per week deeply.  The goal is to get the soil moist about 6 inches below the surface each watering.

Do not mow over the newly seeded area’s until it has reached mow height.  About 3″-3.5″ for fescue or 2″-2.5″ for bermuda.

Do not mow to short and mow frequently enough that you are not removing more than 1/3rd of the blade of grass.  This may require multiple mowing’s per week depending on growth.

Reduce the amount of foot traffic to newly seeded areas.

Reduce frequency of mowing if possible but still maintain removing no more than 1/3rd of the blade of grass.

Prevent animals from using the restroom in newly seeded areas.

Keep newly seeded areas clean and free of debris such as toys, branches, leaves, etc.
